We (The Marines) had a 60mm mortar when I was in Vietnam and it could be fired even when held by a Marine. There was a flechette round for it and a couple of guys I knew would point it towards the bush and fire it from their waist. Reminded me of the Range Gunny who when training us on the M1 Garand would hold the rifle butt on his crotch and say "All you mens, I'm firing a clip from the groan area and all it be doing is reminding me of yo girlfriend!"
