Raytheon Intelligence & Space has been awarded a contract to develop a prototype missile tracking system (MTC) for the U.S. Space Force (USSF), the first missile tracking system in medium earth orbit (MEO).

Roger Cole, executive director of strategic systems programs at Raytheon Intelligence & Space, said: "Our system will enable space forces to accurately detect and track enemy hypersonic weapons with high accuracy."

The Raytheon/Lockheed Martin team plans to complete a critical design review of the system this year, followed by an assembly, integration and testing campaign to put it into orbit by 2026.
