Planes weigh less than you think, especially when light on fuel and payloads.

Also wings are practically designed to be affected by wind. Your common cessna is only rated to fly in winds up to 15mph or so.

Go find a flight instructor and request a discovery flight on a slightly more windy day. You might be very surprised at how much the wind tosses you around.
