Not a fan of Yahoo anything, but the news is out.

Never fired 6.8 but I really want to - really would like to get to try 6.5. Anyone have any experience with 6.8?

This is probably less about weapon effectiveness and more about awarding a contract to Sig instead of Colt to manufacture firearms for the military. Both make a fine gun although I'm curious why they went with Sig after the issues they had with the P320

Sig makes pieces of shit. I don't understand why people like them. Maybe it's just hit or miss and they got the good ones?

good question. I am not certain if Colt pushes that caliber or not - I would assume if 6.8 was the de facto going forward and Sig already had it, that might've been the acquisition edge necessary for contract award. From what I gather, dropping 5.56 was was going to happen no matter what; 7.62 just cutting it any either. I know the 6.5 Grendle was tossed around a few special units, so it seems that's the way it was going to go.

As for the P320, I get there were [serious] growing pains [design flaw], but I would never trade in mine. It is the sweetest pistol I have ever fired - and dead accurate.

I watched recently the Modern Marvels on the Ar15. And holy shit the Army didnt even want it. It took decades for the military to adapt the Ar.

Trip. I'm glad they did. The AR style (M16A2) I trained was a lot of fun; the M4 even more - 5.56 is a wonderful round. but 6.8... that's gotta be a satisfying shoot. From what I understand of the reasoning to move on makes a lot of sense to me. Now, if we can keep them here instead of ensuring our (((allies))) are well armed, we may just get a surplus. I also dig the fact they're keep the main rifle and the support (new SAW) the same caliber.

No more army surplus.

I'm surprised they didn't pick Nerf guns and potato cannons.

I'm sure some LT somewhere is upset about that.

Good for Vortex on securing the optics contract. I've yet to have an opportunity to use this particular XM157 laser/range finder/compass/suck you off in a fox hole/do everything except squeeze the trigger for ya "fire control device", but those boys run a solid company and put out a good product.

I hope it performs better than my Sig Patrol 716. That thing was by far the biggest piece of shit firearm I've ever owned. Right out of the box it couldn't feed any ammo because the feed ramps were fucked up. After Sig had it for two months they sent it back and the first day at the range the forward assist disintegrated and jammed in the BCG. Sig wanted me to send it back to them for another two months, but I asked them just to send me a new forward assist. They sent one along with the wrong roll pins. That was the last straw. I sold that giant piece of shit at a loss, but lesson learned.

I hope the same. I had considered picking up a Sig rifle a ways back but decided against it based on reviews (of the few times I give credence to online reviews). I opted instead for a bullpup which had its own growing pains, but well worth it now - she is the bees knees. I'd probably not go back to a AR design now.
