My wife is 25 years, active duty Army. She's lawyered up, and has refused on her personal convictions, since you have to show a history of religious practice for a religious exemption, and if you don't, they could get you for lying. We're aware she may end up without her pension, but poor and healthy is better than wealthy and not.

She's also been seeking contact with other soldiers.....

I wish her (and you) luck. You're making the correct choice. As someone who has been severely damaged by a "rare" side effect in a common antibiotic (cipro), I assure you it's not worth the risk.

"A person can become religious at any time in his or her life — religious practice may become more important to a person with new life experiences. A person who strays from consistent observance of restrictions or holidays does not establish insincerity, nor does that person forfeit his religious rights.

Commanders make a sincerity determination by assessing honesty and credibility. Is the applicant making a flippant request? Or has the applicant been steadfast in the face of discipline? Has the applicant demonstrated intensive study and reflection on the matter? Does the applicant have credible supporters who substantiate the religious belief?"

there's that saying "there are no atheists in a foxhole." we have ourselves here a mighty big foxhole.

Ah, there's the rub. Those fuckers are the worst sort of politician.

there are no atheists in a foxhole.

Used to joke when we had to bunker up about this. There was more than one of us there.

>Service for 25 years

Just retire. At 20 years they'd be practically trying to kick her out.
