The Navy has removed from duty the commander of the Pearl Harbor-based guided missile destroyer USS Hopper due to leadership issues and problems with crew morale, officials said Thursday.
I'd love to know the backstory behind that.
“Hopper has been my dream since I commissioned,” she was quoted as saying at the time. “As a role model, Rear Adm. Grace Hopper embodied the qualities of a naval officer that I strive to be; strong, confident, and fearless.”
And more crucially: She had a vagina. Let's not pretend that a would be skipper picked a computer scientist as a role model and they both just happen to be women. She picked her because she's pretty much the only famous woman in the history of the US navy, and one of the few in the history of navies in general. If she was a man she'd be looking up to Nimitz or King or someone.
