I seriously doubt the US military would even consider leasing British naval ships when they've got quite an inventory in their mothball fleet along with several "decommissioned" museum carriers. Besides, the British military has a notorious history of running their hardware quite literally into the ground before selling it to their commonwealth dependencies. Something like what this article suggests would only alienate Americans against the British.

Not really. The US has long accepted British ships into her "reserve fleet" since the 1960's when the British discontinued their own reserve fleet at Portsmouth. We've got a better system in place to refurbish and resell ships to other countries than the British do. However, I'm a bit surprised we didn't do the same in regards to their aircraft and let them store them in the "aircraft boneyard" in Nevada. Look up the terms I placed in quotes for more info on that.
