Saw this in a microscope review and found it, well, mildly interesting. They're likely overpriced. It would be neat to get a hold of one of those etched silicon wafers (which I suppose is what they are). Should not cost more than a few dollars.

Interesting looking microscope. I've been considering one for electronics work now that my eyes are getting old...will check it out a little more.

Semi-related and re. real world vs advertised performance. This bad memory just popped into my head: Member those scanners (Parallel port/SCSI era), that gave you 6 gorillion dpi (interpolated)? Those were the shit, literally. :)

I had a handheld device that had it's own card. Was probably SCSI or some poor implementation thereof.

Yeah, it was shit, but I had loads of fun with it.

My first one, back in the Atari ST days, was a reflex light sensor similar to the CNY70 but angled (can't find the exact part atm), mounted to the print head on an Epson compatible printer. So ghetto but it worked for strictly black and white and was cheap af. Then came one of those beasts: https://stcarchiv.de/st-computer/1992/04/handy-scanner

These days I wonder how I found time for all that tinkering.
