For the average fatty these days you only need about 2 inches drop but you will need some heavy duty rope though.

12 Strand Single Braid Kevlar Rope in 1/2" has a tensile strength of 15.5 tons.

That should take care of most scenarios for the foreseeable future hopefully.

I am scared of a future where 15 tons is not enough to withstand the situational requirements. I suspect the softer portions of the subject matter would rip off long before the rope gives out, however.

If the rope is strong enough to resist breaking under that pressure, it will just result in a decapitation.
