I spent many, many hours sorting change as a kid back in the '60s when silver coins, Indian Head pennies and other interesting coins were still in circulation. I nearly filled the old with what I found. I still have them.

I remember doing the same thing with Grandpop's coin collection when he passed away in '68. LOTS of stuff!

So exciting to find a somewhat rare coin or one in good shape that you didn't already have. A kid in my high school lost his grandfather that used to run a small pub, said he sorted out all the silver coins and saved them in nail kegs after he knew clad coins were coming to replace silver, which this kid inherited. The kid was selling them for scrap value ... I was able to acquire a few of his coins that were in excellent condition for a few dollars over scrap. If I had more money in high school, I would have driven to his house on the other side of town and high graded his best coins. I remember it really bugged me that he was perfectly satisfied just to sell them off for scrap value. Most were well worn, but there were many VG and Fine coins mixed in.
