Now we're all going to die from Global Spinning.
If there are minor variations in rotational speed -- and by minor I mean a few millionths of a second a day -- they will even out over time. No big deal. Could be caused by shifting mass inside the molten core. Stuff moved around inside the earth all the time.
So, if I understand correctly, the earth's rotation sped up one day and turned back to normal the next. So that means that after it sped up, it slowed down. Why are we not talking about the slowing down part? It seems as important to me.
The earth wobbles on its axis, it is likely this. It's like a spinning top that's not perfectly vertical. occasionally a wobble could, in theory, effect a rotation.
I get that, but why only talk about half of the event?
From what I understand, since the earth's rotation is slowing slowly, they haven't seen any increase so far. I just assume we haven't been doing this long enough to see a speed increase until now. It's just a novel event that we hadn't considered or prepared for.
