Puts a plastic bag of hot water on ice and is suprised the ice melts.

Guess you're just fucked if you're not around a source for hot water. If only cars had some heated fan to try and melt the ice away. Oh wait.

It seemed to work for a bit of frost. Not sure how it will fare on a 3/16" of ice. In all my years of scraping a window, I don't think joint pain has ever been a complaint.

If you put a towel over your window overnight, there will be no frost to scrape.
Pull it off in the morning to reveal crystal clear window.

yeah I have done that one. Just kind of hard to justify doing it every night "just in case" there will be frost. It's rare here

Pretty stupid to drive off in a cold car anyway. Sit in it a few minutes and let the engine warm up, let em defrost with the heater.
