>Microsoft has terminated an account associated with VeraCrypt, a popular and long-running piece of encryption software, throwing future Windows updates of the tool into doubt, VeraCrypt’s developer told 404 Media. The move highlights the sometimes delicate supply chain involved in the publication of open source software, especially software that relies on big tech companies even tangentially.

It says WireGuard had their Microsoft account suspended too. It looks like MS is killing peoples’ ability to manage their own security.

One one hand, I feel bad for all of those Windows users. On the other hand, this will push more of the smart ones over to Linux. Once we get a critical mass using Linux most of the rest will follow.

The tipping point is already accelerating. Between Valve/Steam spending the better part of a decade making gaming on Linux more or less "just work". The ease of installation for distros like Linux Mint, with all the built in drivers already working on-install, compatibility with random printers/scanners/etc... Microsoft killing support for windows 10 while saying your computer is too crappy for windows 11 and won't even let you install it without workarounds thus turning all older computers into e-waste (unless you install Linux on it).

Yeah. They did this to themselves. Maybe its intentional. Maybe they don't want to be in the OS business anymore.
