From the post:

>Microsoft is preparing a major change to how printers are supported in Windows 11, pulling the plug on drivers that primarily support older hardware. Beginning with a non-security update that was released on January 15, Microsoft will no longer support legacy V3 and V4 printer drivers, which were announced as deprecated in September 2023. The policy is part of broader plans to modernize the Windows print platform following the release of Windows 10 21H2, which removed the need for print device manufacturers to provide their own installers. Under these plans, users on Windows 11 or Windows Server 2025 and later will no longer be able to install new printer drivers via Windows Update.

This is like one of the last coffins I’d expect.

I mean there are 1000’s of okidata ml-319 out there in warehouses and places that still to this day dot matrix for multiple copies

Yep, and they are all probably going to be driven by Linux in the future. (If they are not already, a lot probably are).

If I had the energy, I’d pick one of the biggest management systems for things like the paper industry, produce industry the likes, then build a client server system, and make it just work.

Then sell The fuck out of it.

That really should not be all that complicated. I have built a ton of *nix print server systems that take "generic" input from other systems and translate it. That was over a decade ago.

We have several linux servers running barcode and dot matrix printers. Only the laser printers are running on windows print servers.

I believe my work all-in-one device that sits in the main all falls under this driver category, and it's not really that old as far as this type of machine goes. That's going to be a fun conversation with corp.

The better plan is SCB running cupps

They're a mickeysoft shop, so it's their problem - not mine.
