I like it. Another nudge to get a few more intelligent people to switch to Linux. It’s not as strong as the AI nonsense, or banning local accounts, or endless nagging to subscribe to their paid services, but every bit helps.
Good thing I won't be needing to ever install Windows again. My personal laptop runs 11 only because I work remote, and I need a backup Windows machine (fucking Citrix) in case my work laptop happens to randomly bite the dust. It did once too. Something to do with resetting the power circuit with a keyboard combo fixed it. That probably had nothing to do with Windows, but I do need a backup. Everything else, Linux.
Work used to force me to use a Windows box which I thought was fucking insane since I only interact with *nix systems. They finally offered a option to have a Mac. Its still not a *nix box but its better than windows... mostly.
Us peons aren't offered the Mac option, but I know for sure at least one of the managers uses one. I saw the UI for a moment in a Teams presentation. I'm not really a fan of Macs either though. Plus, I don't really know how they work. It has been 20 years since I touched one. It was OS X Tiger of 2006 vintage, and I only got to play with it at school.
They works the same as any os. Linux is close to it, windows has similar things like system and settings.
At least modern "MacOS" is a BSD base. It has most of the tools you want but some of them don't work the same as they do on a typical *nix system which can be a PITA when you are prototyping some scripts or something then move it to a proper server to run them and they don't work. I gave up on basically anything "local" a long time ago since I have dev/test env's I can use.
I used the KMS activation hack when I moved a Win 10 instance to a new CPU/motherboard last year. I even tried legit activation and it refused to work and M$ answer was to reinstall. I don't want to reinstall. I didn't want to start over and reinstall everything. Part of the reason Windows 11 still isn't on any of my systems.
EDIT: I even asked the M$ support people we use at my employer and they said I was fucked. Not because they wouldn't help. It was because there was no way to do it with KMS or reinstalling.
Did you use masgrave?
Been using this guy's activation script for almost a decade with any new windows machine. No fuss no muss.
The day SteamOS arrives will be a glorious one.
