Yeah, FUCK YOU Microsoft. I refuse to use your stupid online account over a local-only account for devices I own. At least I only use your shitty operating system to play games and otherwise just use Linux for everything. I can not wait for the day that most games run as good or better under Linux than Windows. I am never going to miss MS or their bullshit.

From the post:

>Windows 11 has been out now for about two and a half years, but its predecessor, Windows 10, still dominates the operating system market. It's pretty clear that when it comes to PCs, Windows 10 is the most popular operating system. That means many of you readers might very well know how annoying Microsoft's prompts are regarding getting you to upgrade to Windows 11. So far, we've been able to pass on that upgrade without too much trouble.

How to turn it off

Stop using windows.

This is the only long term solution.

Like every micro$haft push, it starts as something which can be disabled. After a year or so, it will becom mandatory. later versions of windows will require it.

Stop coping. Get off windows.

get Windows box > throw it in the trash = problem solved

Use GPedit.msc in your "run" window and you can go crazy customizing windows. A quick online search of what you want to disable will tell you how to drill down to the settings you need to find to make changes.

Reminds me of trying to use Microsoft games having to constantly reset your password or simply being locked out of your account.

I got an activated copy of Win 11 from 1337x and even with all the activated software and turning off that TPM chip shit (ALWAYS disable TPM in the BIOS. Windows stores shit in there that can be recovered by law enforcement) it STILL wants you to create a M$ account. Every keeps saying to create a local account after you get it installed but the damage is already done. You've associated an account and hardware with M$.

I don't have an online acct, I only ever use a local account.

Yea, I went through this contortion recently. It's a real pain in the ass. Then, the lock screen is advertising to me to use Office 365. I ignore it since I use LibreOffice. I only use my Windows machine for editing code in Visual Studio, yet another problem. But for most everything else, I use some old hardware running Linux.

For ads, I edit the URL filter in my router. It's like using Pi-Hole, but simpler.
