Microsoft only says that because no one uses Bing. The birdcage liners newspapers don't seem to realize that a lot of their traffic probably comes from these search engines, and by interrupting that, they're going to lose views, and who wants to bet the paywalls will still be in place even if something like this does come to pass?
I think I've probably gone to a newspaper's website maybe twice without using a search engine to find a story of interest, and that was only because it was something local that involved a family memeber.
