There's no way that a normal, rational person would actually think to not notify anyone for nine months that the website was going down.
I was on Voat since around 2015, never saw a post like that from Putt. It reeked of something odd from the first paragraph of that announcement through the rest of it.
I'm not so sure. Remember that time when the drives got full and fucking Atko had to step in and get Voat back up?
I think Putt's about twelve miles past giving a shit.
Great shout. I actually believe that Putt actually and actively disliked about 99% of the userbase and content. It's one of the great ironies of Voat actually. Putt clearly and deeply believed in free speech....but his greatest allies where people whose views he probably found personally abhorrent.
That inherent contradiction finally solved itself.
He's been burned out for a while now. Money is the reason (excuse) he gave today.
Goats had been asking over and over again for there to be a donation option. For some, money is no issue and they offered. Others offered to provide free hosting.
I'm sure Putt has his reasons, and I'm fairly confident that web hosting costs aren't it. But that reason is what he saw fit to tell us.
