Mmmmm,, my inner EMT tells me that injection drugs do not work the same when they are ingested. Drugs that are given intra muscular do not work the same if taken intravenously. Sub lingual drugs cannot be swallowed. So on and so forth. The rules for drug administration are Right Patient, Right Drug, Right Route, Right Time. Changing any of those things can have undesirable results.
