The result is correct. He simply doesn't understand how the mathematical order of operations works.
When he types 50 + 50 * 2, the calculator correctly interprets it as 50 + (50*2) = 150.

Those rules changed since I was young. It used to be that without the parens, you go left to right. This 'always do mult first' shit when you use regular notation is weird to me too.

They taught me BEDMAS (brackets, exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction). My kid came home with some math work 6 or 7 years ago and they were calling it something else. I suspect for her kids, they'll call it something different again.
