I didn't think the statement at the bottom was true, and a bit of research says I was correct.
If the goal is to get parishioners into heaven, then they have to properly atone for their sins, and sidestepping the process may worsen the issue. Obviously confessing to her husband ought to be a condition of absolution, but if priests are going to blab about things parishioners won't confess to them in the first place.

I thought the same thing. Thanks for doing the digging. As far as I know the only way a priest can violate the sanctity of the confessional is if the person who confessed allows them to.
