I won't pay a dime either. It's an occasional distraction, not something I would ever pay for. Now imagine panticlutch posts some twitter link and it takes you to a register page where you have to link your bank account and pay X/month if you haven't already? No one is going to do it! a. that's a paywall, and b. you lose whatever anonymity you thought you had. They'll either close the tab or they'll look for an archived link if they really care that much, which they won't. Let's say you can view the tweet, but can't reply. You've still killed engagement, which is also horrible. Twitter is no longer interactive. It's become the daily mail with a comments section that's only available to paid subscribers! Advertisers will watch the view counts plummet, and then that revenue will dry up too. He's already scuttled it though by limiting reach if you don't pay. It's impossible to get a lot of engagement on twitter if you don't pay for the blue checkmark. Twitter is already dead. It's just a matter of how long it will be on the deathbed.
