Twitterx or whatever it is now is about to die. musky pusky is about to implode it by charging people a monthly fee.

Unbelievable. I don't think he understands the value of network effects. The reason twitter matters is because of its network effect and eyeballs. 80%+ aren't going to hand over PII and credit card info to Elon in combination with a monthly fee With 80% of your eyeballs gone, you lose way more than 80% of your value, even with the 20% paying.

It's going to turn into an echo chamber of egomaniac men, histrionic women, and advertising spam. He'll implement the financial bullshit, and it will turn into a medium sized bank with the remaining users.

He should have implemented "free" banking features if they "upgraded" their account, and monetize it later with float/permissible investments. Venmo doesn't charge its users a monthly fee and makes a shit load of money on float. He's using sticks instead of carrots. What an idiot.

Feels like another controlled demolition. Too many people waking up.

I came here to say this xD

If Twitter wants to censor, then they should be charging a monthly fee. You can't censor what someone is saying on a busy street corner which is essentially what Twitter is.

I've been on twitter twat since 09 but really only started to use it during fits of boredom. I won't pay him a dime. He should have started his own show as a competitor.

I won't pay a dime either. It's an occasional distraction, not something I would ever pay for.

Now imagine panticlutch posts some twitter link and it takes you to a register page where you have to link your bank account and pay X/month if you haven't already? No one is going to do it! a. that's a paywall, and b. you lose whatever anonymity you thought you had.

They'll either close the tab or they'll look for an archived link if they really care that much, which they won't.

Let's say you can view the tweet, but can't reply. You've still killed engagement, which is also horrible. Twitter is no longer interactive. It's become the daily mail with a comments section that's only available to paid subscribers!

Advertisers will watch the view counts plummet, and then that revenue will dry up too.

He's already scuttled it though by limiting reach if you don't pay. It's impossible to get a lot of engagement on twitter if you don't pay for the blue checkmark. Twitter is already dead. It's just a matter of how long it will be on the deathbed.
