It’s not pedantic; it’s factual and extraordinarily relevant. If we go around spouting obviously false facts, that discredits everything.
Instead, get the facts right, which are every bit as damning. The students weren’t quarantined like the populace was in Australia or China, rather, they were locked in their homes by virtue of having everything else locked up. Don’t argue facts that can easily be disprove, disprove their argument with easily proven facts.
It is 100% not factual. There were many jurisdictions, entire countries, where you couldn't even hang out in your own lawn. So no, it's wrong. The pedantic part was about "just walk outside your front door", which as we all know wasn't an option in many locations.
Caveat - the teacher seems to be referring specifically to the US, where it wasn’t factual. Again, you could leave, but weren’t allowed to go anywhere - including public parks, stores, etc.
