What we may also be seeing is some sort of induced hypochondria (imagine the mental state of actual hypochondriacs). Or perhaps more likely, a psychological signalling between maniacs that they are "in the same team". They are signalling their belief in the group psychosis. By doing so, they feel a connection and sense of community and purpose. These people are dangerous, these are the sort of people who want anyone who doesn't believe as they do to be put in a camp.

That's why I suggest using what i said above.

They want to feel superior, holier than thou. Because they're heroes saving lives, stopping the spread; they're the smart people who are safe and clean, while everyone are evil selfish stupid dirty science-denying murderers.

I'm flipping it. By wearing a mask, they're the science-denying virus spreading selfish murderers. And I'm using their "facts", their "science", and their "logic" to make them into the bad guys.

This fucks up the dopamine rush of putting on a mask. Their own group might be seeing them as diseased science-denying virus spreading selfish murderers. Instead of seeing them as heroes. And they can't just brush off what is being said, because to do so would contradict their group's own logic, morals, and values.
