DDG is still probably better than Google... but we have seen this slow slide happening for a while. It's obvious that the intention is to just be a containment site. New boss just like the old boss.
It seems like there are no perfect solutions but I think Start Page might be the best alternative now.
SP has shit results
I disagree... for 99% of the searches the results are just fine. Most of the time I am just "looking something up" and SP works great. Occasionally when I am "doing research" I will switch to something else to broaden my result set but more and more I am finding that I just get a bunch of adds I did not need. The SP indexing and crawling has gotten MUCH better. You should give it a second chance
The image search is really lacking
