If I were in the "this doesn't prove anything" crowd, my default position would probably begin by something like "just because that sequence was patented by moderna doesn't prove moderna made covid", as in, just because this algorithm was patented by a given society, doesn't mean they are responsible for any arm done by someone else misusing it
"You" have to essentially adopt the opposite side's position to find where the potential flaw is
So in order to invalidate the rebuttal above, one would have to start by knowing the inner workings in that field; how patented materials are shared for research purpose (I believe it's strictly controlled, but what do I know?), how it could have gone out of the control of moderna for instance, in order to "corner"/identify the range of possible to begin with, and from there being able to rule out scenarios, narrow down the chain of possible responsibilities, accountability
