“Charge” as in insurance. That’s their new argument, without universal healthcare the patient doesn’t have money for involuntary commitment. But that’s exactly what Medicaid used to be for, instead of letting them live on the streets with our tax payer insurance that does nothing for them.
But then the argument would shift and it would be a human rights violation. It wasn’t Reagan as the left loves to claim but the aclu who sued and won and got the crazies freed.
Then some red states started putting the violent ones who wouldn’t take their meds into nursing homes so they could be monitored and forced to take their meds after repeated crimes. That ended when they started attacking the elderly in the centers.
