Welcome to /r/UnpopularOpinion, the place for the most popular opinions (because actually unpopular ones get downvoted into oblivion, erased, and users banned).
[↑15.2K] [submitted 7 hours ago] “Not learning (or worse, not teaching your kids) to swim is one of the absolute stupidest things you could do”
Yes, I agree that it is important to teach children swimming. Who the hell disagrees on that?! But according to the sidebar rules, downvote means agreement and upvote disagreement in /r/UnpopularOpinion.
Pretty much everyone should be aware at this point that /r/UnpopularOpinion is the opposite of what it claims to be.
/r/TrueUnpopularOpinion is slightly less popular on average, which suggests less strict moderation (and an escape community for those banned from /r/Un*PopularOpinion).
This is a subverse for pointing out faguettery and censorship on Reddit, but also for popular and relevant content.

In November 2016, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman (/u/spez) (old.reddit.com) edited comments of users criticizing him. (theverge.com)
Putting words into user's mouths, which means making them appear like they wrote something they never actually did, especially on sensitive posts, is one of the greatest violations of user trust possible.
Although shortly after he applogized and promised never to do it again, it clearly gives away how Reddit tends to handle criticism.
