C_O_B_R_A - The Fight for Free Speech on Reddit

Dude! Go find another platform! Free speech on Reddit is hopelessly doomed!

In an age when the dissemination of accurate information and the ability to discuss difficult topics in an objective manner are of the utmost importance, Reddit administration and moderation teams are working together to censor and drown out unbiased and free speech. In their attempt to appease their sponsors and play into their own biases, these power and money-hungry members of the human race feel the need to dismiss and destroy opinions, ideas, and thoughts that do not feed into their own warped views of the world. Their goal on a website consisting of hundreds of millions of users is not to instigate free thought and innovative ideas, but to distill them into a tight tunnel which leads to nowhere except the lining of their own wallets. In order to do this, they train themselves to delete and censor that which is not popular, and to lead the users of their communities to bite their tongues and vote in the same manner.

"We stand for free speech. This means we are not going to ban distasteful subreddits. We will not ban legal content even if we find it odious or if we personally condemn it."

  - Reddit CEO, 2012

"We uphold the ideal of free speech on reddit as much as possible not because we are legally bound to, but because we believe that you — the user — has the right to choose between right and wrong, good and evil, and that it is your responsibility to do so. When you know something is right, you should choose to do it. But as much as possible, we will not force you to do it."

 - Reddit CEO, 2014

"Neither Alexis nor I created reddit to be a bastion of free speech, but rather as a place where open and honest discussion can happen: These are very complicated issues, and we are putting a lot of thought into it."

 - Reddit CEO, 2015

"I’m confident that Reddit could sway elections. r/WeWouldntDoIt, of course. And I don’t know how many times we could get away with it. But, if we really wanted to, I’m sure Reddit could have swayed at least this election, this once."

- Reddit CEO, 2018

What was once a website dedicated to encouraging discussion has become a magnet for bias and tunnel vision, an attempt to snake their ideas into the minds of their vast userbase. It has transformed from a harmless hub of information and memes into a machine intended to destroy the individuality of the many members of its broad userbase. The administrators and powermods who try to sink their fangs into and retain control over every aspect of the website lack the openmindedness, humility, and empathy to understand that their perspective of the world is not the only valid one. They cannot accept the fact that their users have much to contribute, should they be allowed the platform. The administrators and moderators hate the fact that their userbase can express ideas that contradict and challenge them. A challenge is uncomfortable to their vulnerable sensibilities and a cause for them to censor.

They want to destroy the ability for its userbase to tolerate any views that differ from that which they deem appropriate. Like vipers on the hunt, they are policing and selectively keeping and removing what they think is right and wrong. What makes these self-perceived pythons the experts in right vs wrong over everyone else?

They want to destroy that which has made humanity progress at an unprecedented rate for so many millenia: the freedom of thought and expression and transmission of information. What makes them think that being constrictors of these essential aspects of human communication is beneficial to hundreds of millions of users?

They want to destroy creativity and reason in communication. They want you to act like reptiles who follow their pithy commands on instict. Moderators and administrators will ban and suspend without reason or explanation, and upon request, ignore or insult users with venom. It is a way for them to lazily exhibit their power over the only venue they have it: the internet.

We will not stand for this. We will not be prey to suppression of thought. We have as much of a right to express our thoughts and have discussions as anyone else. Our views are not worse than yours; they are different. We support your right to have your view, and you should support your right for us to have our view, and we should all support the right to discuss our views in an unpoisoned environment that promotes intellectual discussion without restrictions. This is what made early Reddit a beautiful place, and is what has been removed from contemporary Reddit in favor of the cruelest of intentions.

Heed our call. We are the Censored and Oppressed Brethren of Reddit Association - C_O_B_R_A, and we who have had our voices removed will stand and rise again. From the grave, we will rise again. We are SalBundry_5TDs1Game, hapyreditor, nonouiswrong, MichelinStarChef, ifckstacy, Max_KarmaDude, Iknowyouare-bot, VeganJusticeWarrior, chadreditor, Tizer, YuriCheckmatGMFisher, pretyreditor, TradFeminist, SpelingBeeChimp, my-name-jeff-epic, ShowBush, ImBettrThnU, fencing_champ, rebbit_helping_bot, jobo7345, glassishalfull, Wiseonejambo, boomerfather, Brett-Hal-JonesUS76, Cummy_Boner, Survivalist_steve, cornwallets, im-here-with-stupid, and many more.

We know that Reddit will not change its ways. That ship has long sailed. But its userbase can navigate the website with knowledge and awareness of exactly what its administrators and moderators are trying to do. Do not let them win. No not take anything you read on Reddit seriously. Do not let them rattle who you are as a person. Let yourself retain the power of your own knowledge and individuality. You hold within you the power of your own experiences, mind, and thoughts. Join us and rise above those who choose to think they have power over us.

Two thoughts.

First, anyone still there either doesn't care or hasn't been paying any attention for the last 6+ years going back to at least the Ellen Pao regime, and arguably even well before that.

Second, reading through many of the comments to that, most of those people are getting no less than they deserve. Even most of the non-hard core SJWs on reddit are painfully progressive and willing to accept censorship and authoritarianism as long as their feefees are protected.
