It actually seems to me to be an endemic issue with the younger generations as a whole.

Being raised with a combination of TV, video games, social media, and globalization has made practicing more typical in-person conversation rarer. Not only that but most relationships are much more transient so getting to know someone one just met is an exercise in futility as they won't be in one's life for more than a short season.

Add on the need to appear more perfect in society as the sexual competition is fiercer due to the more numerous available mates and you get endless amounts of anxiety.

It's quite sad really
