I always thought it's the other way round, the new desktop version actually being a mobile version trying to work on the desktop as well.

I also notice Ani625 is still going on with that silly virtue signalling posting.

Putting words into user's mouths, which means making them appear like they wrote something they never actually did, especially on sensitive posts, is one of the greatest violations of user trust possible.
