I'm planning to take some time off and the prep work to be able to do that is not going to be fun.

Yes, vacations were exhausting ... before going on vacation! Between all the extra work at work to complete the project schedules through the time planned away from.work, the hand off work for anyone covering your stuff while you are away, the vacation prep work to pre plan and organize the actual vacation ....many of my vacations were spent at home or at my camp.

It was easier for me to plan "drop out" vacations, I'd drop out on the flight back to take a week of vacation at friends and relatives homes around the country - and the company paid for my round trip flight. That was a blast and felt like a real vacation. A real mental reset.
