So Montana is mostly wasteland. I don’t mean in a bad way, it’s just barren. They have minimal ability to get water everywhere and most of its ranching not farming.
But then again I haven’t been in over 10 years, but I wouldn’t bank on it having built the systems to water farm lands.

They don’t have irrigation ditches as precedent as say Colorado, so farming in general was not profitable even at the small level.
