I've heard before, don't remember who told me, that Romania was mostly a military outpost, and the Latin spoke there during the Roman empire was a very militaristic sort of Latin, not the high cultural Latin that was spoken in many other parts of the empire.
Like the Romanian word for child is copil, from the the latin copia, which translates to copy.
So your children are just your copies, which is kind of what they are, I guess.
