There’s so much effusive Christianity here, so many rapt displays of faith, sermons, monologuing through Bible verses, and preaching to the lost, that the horror elements almost feel like window-dressing.
This was my own reaction. Mind you, I've got nothing against Christianity or spirituality in movies. But in this mini-series, the prayers and discussions about Christian topics slowed down the action and dominated. I said to my wife, who also watched the thing, that I could make a really good series out of this material if I were to chop out about an hour of preaching. The series actually struck me as something made by a Christian religious group, there was so much soul searching in it. In spite of that, it is a watchable series. The vampire is terrific, one of the best I've ever seen in movies or on TV.
