ransomeware takes down an entire eastern pipeline in the US? Do they really think we're that dumb? Ransomeware is so 2010. As if they don't have protections or redundancy on this shit. This is bullshit psyop. I'm so fucking done with this!

This is the government. They still use COBOL.

[–] [deleted] 5 pts

Half if not 75% of the people who understand COBOL are either dead or in nursing homes

The only fancy word I know is SCADA. Makes me sound like I know what I'm talking about sometimes.

Ransomeware is still around and still effective. The biggest difference now is they charge an amount that makes them consider the option of paying. The amount is higher than just replacing the hardware, but cheap enough to get them money.

I suspect ransomeware is Deep State funding itself.

Makes sense, they'd also be able to fund making some beast ransomware. Stuxnet was ages ago, and that wasn't even ransomware

Ransomware still works. It's not like you can just calculate up a cypher like the enigma machine. When we get to quantum (years, decades) Things will get interesting.

Never underestimate the idiocy of hiring for diversity.

The article said that they had a cyber attack (so unprovable) and shut down things voluntarily to avoid attack on the systems.

Fuck these globalists and their fake shortages. They're just getting us used to the idea of living in a third world shithole, all these supply chain issues are invented they aren't real.

Makes me glad i have an electric car to cover me for short trips.

[–] 1 pt

By short trips you mean under 250 miles? Even when I was commuting for 3 hours every day it took 3 days to burn through 250 miles.

[–] 2 pts

No. I mean like under 75 miles. I didnt want to spend multiple 10's of thousands of $ of something designed to fail.

I spent 7500 on a cheapo electric fiat 500 and it fits the need. I would NOT recommend anything mechanical made by fiat/chrysler. but this little thing is decent. Ive had it 2 years, and only replaced the 2 power window regulators, @ 30 bucks each.

Its not fast, its not sporty, its not family friendly. It is cheap economical transportation that i expect to last me about 10 years. which (not counting tires and brakes) is 750$ a year before electricity to power it.

No. I mean like under 75 miles. I didnt want to spend multiple 10's of thousands of $ of something designed to fail.

Electric car batteries are lasting longer than gasoline engines, not to mention the motors themselves. In CARB states the batteries are warranteed for 150,000 miles. Even if you had to replace a $7,000 battery at 200,000 miles (you won't), the prorated cost is 3.5 cents/mile ... about the same as paying $1.05 for gas in a 30 mpg car.

gas industry, "we cant do our jobs because of the cyberattack!"

They (tm) have wanted oil prices to rise for the longest time. I don't know whether it's a petrodollar thing or one of Them having a bad investment in long-term oil holdings.(Putin? the Middle Eastern Royal Families?) If electricity keeps taking over transportation there's going to be a shakeup. I'm waiting for oil to stay steady for longer than six months. When it does I'll know someone's spending serious money to prop it up.

At any rate unless you have a 1000 gallon tank there's no point in filling up now. This is just a blip in a much more involved process.

Gas was $1.15 in 1990 and gold was ~$345. Today gold is $1800 so it follows that gas would be around $6. We're actually doing well, considering.

[–] 2 pts

And gold should be higher as well. There is a lot of pent-up inflation energy that hasn't been released.

Oil companies can charge whatever they want. But there's a little thing called economics which dictates price points. Supply vs. Demand etc. Price goes up, demand goes down. Supply goes down price goes up. Everytime. All the time. It's a "law" of economics unless there's a barrier interfering like government regulations,. or a monopoly, which there isn't. Think about it. If they were charging $5 based on a lie, the guy who wants to sell MORE gas is going to say... I can sell MORE by only charging $4.90. And someone else says we'll, he's kicking my ass at $4.90 I'll charge $4.80 and a price war develops until it can't go any lower because they run out of supply or there isn't enough demand (everyone who wants gas already bought it). So no... They aren't lying.
