The number one rule when working with machine tools -- always count your fingers after you finish.

This sounds silly, but there's a reason for this. The human mind doesn't want to accept information that is totally strange and unnatural to it, so if you lose a finger, you may not feel it due to shock, and if you look at your hand you may not immediately see that a finger is missing, although you will see the blood everywhere. But if you count your fingers, you will notice that the result is not what it should be.
