I have always believed that food that was over-spiced, especially with spicy-hot chilis and peppers came from 3rd world ethnic groups because it was a way to disguise the taste of food that was past it's safe use period, in other words starting to rot, or infested with bugs. You shouldn't have to cover up the taste of meats and vegetables that are prepared safely and properly.
There is truth to this. I also think you'd assume white people food was bland and shitty too if your only exposure was school lunches and prison food.
This I used to dislike vegetables, until I got married. Turns out my mother was a really shitty cook, compared to my wife.
