Some friends and I played divinity 2 and very much enjoyed it. Hopefully BG3 we will have similar experiences
What BG3? As far as I'm aware, it's a trilogy, but the third game has always been the ToB addon. Some would even tell you that the second game doesn't exist and only the first one is legit, and I concur. I played the original BG on its original engine without BG2's additions tacked on, and man, you wouldn't believe it, it's like a completely different game. No limit for summons, Charm is crazy overpowered, no intrusive banter, Dimension Door works, each encounter is meaningful and challenging, sounds are better, Dual-classing Specialists, Unnerfed Grandmastery, and so on and so forth. You do miss out on Barbs and Monks though, but oh well.

Larian Studios always develop their games this way. They release the game, which is really just a beta, collect player feedback, make changes, then release it again.
Never buy any of their games as soon as they come out. Always wait for the Definitive Edition. Although, if you did purchase early you get the "full" version as a free upgrade. Which is better than most developers these days.
