Well I use a graphical file manager in Thunar. When say I have a few file names and here's and example example 01.avi example 02.avi etc etc. Well a lot of linux pro's use a script for this but I like many don't have experience or skill with scripts. I used to click rename and then click backspace a few times then click save. Now I rename the first file in the series, then I save, click rename and copy the highlighted name, click cancel. Now we go to the next file, right click on it hit R for rename, then use ctrl v to paste ,then click backspace, then choose 2 or whatever number it was, then click enter. No watching backspace or anything. Now this works best with a file named like watch mr rogers neighborhood episode 2 watch this file online.avi. Now that would take a lot of work if all of them are like that including going to the beginning and removing the word watch but copying the rename as mr rogers neighborhood episode 2 you only have to change 2 to 3 and the rest has been removed with the first rename. I used to spend hours renaming stuff and instead of taking 5 minutes to rename 20 files it takes like 1 1/2 minutes tops now. Just a tip for those who haven't thought of this yet. It likely will work with most modern file managers since this works in windows and Nemo also.
