I just updated MX linux, took me almost 40 seconds, glad I didn't have to reboot. That typing in my password took almost 5 seconds also.

I didn't even consider that but I'm old fashioned an consider anything without a mouse and physical keyboard not a REAL computer and more like a toy. A real computer you can have multiple drives and many usb ports. I hate the restrictions of power and a screen I can hardly see. Hell if I had the money my computer would be in a server rack with a huge 4K TV hooked up to it.

Well, the surface does have the typecover keyboard and works with my logitech mice and other keyboards, external drives flawlessly. Other than that I agree with you for the most part. I used to have a monster tower hooked up to a 5 ft HD display, but as mobile as I am these days I can no longer lug that setup around or generate enough power for it any more. These have insane DPI anyways and i can cram more stuff on this laptop sized screen than I could on my larger display. I've been keeping my eye on linux compatible hardware in the form factor I want, but from what I understand even when I get the hardware, the application and API support on linux is lagging behind even worse than old apps in the windows world and most linux apps still don't work well with simultaneous mouse / multitouch / pen input.
