I use MX18 on a usb stick and it's even faster than mint. I started with mint after a few trial and errors like Ubuntu "I hate Ubuntu". I now recommend to all people thinking of changing from windows to use mint. Though I haven't used it I suppose I'd recommend Elementary to apple users to change to linux.

It's funny to me how little respect Mint gets in the business world. And likely one or two people are going to respond to me with fallacies like, "it's not ready for the enterprise" or something like that, which I could dispel if I had more time.

It's my favorite Linux distro. I show it to customers having problems with Windows, Just boot to a live flash drive and delete the obvious malware and temp files from Linux. Most act like it's some form of witchcraft, even when I tell them that Mint will do for them what they want, without the Windows spying, at least the older customers that tell me they only use the web and email. With LibreOffice already at hand, their Office files can be opened to show how they don't need MS Office for general at-home use..

I imagine they also notice the speed difference if they are using vista or win10 immediately. Hell they are likely amazed your flash boots up to a desktop faster than their installation also. Yeah the speed of boot and internet downloads sold me forever. The update times closed the deal.

If you are going to install this I can run you through the install from memory. It's pretty straight forward and the only tough part is the partitioning where instead of C and D drive linux uses mattering your system hda or sda. HDA is for older systems with ide drives and SDA is for computers with sata connections, the difference is ide drives have ribbon cables and sata have just a cable similar in size to a coax to connect your hard drives or SSD drives.
