A lot of new people to linux have read but do not connect the dots. There is going to be a new linux driver and better API's soon enough. Now to most new people this might mean that they will be able to use games or video editors that ran shitty before will run better.

Now me, I'm thinking lateral movement. I have used xfce for years since it runs best for my nvidia card at this time, BUT gtk made it so the panel clock on my 42 inch led tv is around 12 pt font. This is shit for this guy since it ran great till the fuckers updated xfce and then more shit was non functional.

Now think about this. KDE runs like shit with nvidia now using the open source drivers but with new drivers and a new api from amd KDE might be usable for once without freezing or crashing with good video drivers.

This is hopefully not a misguided thought since it would be great to have the colorful desktop and a clock with large font widget to glance at from more than 4 ft away and clearly see the time not lean toward the screen. Hell linux seems to be for the last several years moving backward. They are so busy adding support for tablets and rasberry pie the basics are being left behind like games and apps that used to work and features that are just tossed since they require work that no one seems to be qualified for or they are working on something that is specific interest like virtual reality or game controllers.

If I can run a KDE setup "Never gnome or enlightenment" then I would be one happy camper that is for sure.

I use xfce because it is gnome 2 like. Gnome 3 and the new kde try to cater to tablets and are buggy as hell.
