I usually recommend a distro with xfce if possible since that and mate are most like windows or a cinnamon desktop for users that have no windows background since it's so simplistic. I avoid recommending kde since it seems to be buggy in all my installs and gnome since it's not friendly to new users unless they like a windows 8 like desktop aka touchscreen like.

I recommend both. My recommendation for distro is Fedora, and I recommend the KDE spin.

That's cool but you can install most desktops on any distro. There's sooo many good choices now it's hard to pick one.

I like mx and manjaro for ease of use and speed and stability. I used to recommend mint but it's gone downhill since 2016 2018 times it just let go of the edge it had like they just gave up and said fuck it.
