Since this is the newbs sub I'll add to this a safety factor. Download the ISO and burn it to a usb stick in advance. If the update upgrade fails or you cannot get into the upgraded desktop then you can just do a full install with the burned iso on usb and not be stranded without an OS.
I miss the old grub2 before they found all the holes in it since I used to have "No windows"7 linux distro's installed on my Dell but now I have to change the booting OS in my Motherboard first or it just boots the last OS only. I miss having an easy choice at each boot and now I hate shit since the last 4 years linux has gone backwards and slower than before.
