Well Garuda Linux an arch based distro has a version called barebones which is not so barebones but comes with kde or gnome. Now it's really fast as fuck and it has a few bugs. Like when you're adding software with their program it has a thing after it downloads that looks for bootable partitions. It keeps giving the error message of OS Probe error. It takes a while and make sure you remove the install usb or it takes longer but wait or it will not install the downloads. It's a shitty thing and they should do the grub setup after they install everything but for some reason they make this pain in the ass part right after downloading. Then they install the updates and any software you decided to add. I got a real treat, they give several kernel options that no other distro help ever gave me and I chose the Calcula which is supposed to have a really fast response time and it seems to be.

I tried the dragonized version last time I used Garuda and it had a ton of gaming shit I didn't need including steam which I can't stand the interface of the online site itself, total clusterfuck. ALso lutris, wine, and a ton of emulators I'd never use and when I uninstalled a bunch of that shit the OS shit itself basically since they intergrated the programs to much into the gui. Like some distro's I've use intergrated graphic viewers or firefox into the OS itself, just build the distro so anything can be removed is the only intelligent way to build on instead of taking lame shortcuts.

Well the update and everything went well finally when I decided to wait out the 8 times the OS probe listed errors, got several extra partitions for storage is why. I do recommend installing pamac right away though. The repository Garuda updater was set to US only so I had to manually reset it in the welcome app to world and US repositories and changed 10 of them to 25 so if one was not carrying the program I might need another one will have it. Also the wifi setup should be manually checked, I added from the dropdown bssid and device "usb dongle" and Garuda was a lot more responsive/reliable updating after that. Now just install stuff like a kernel with a choice scheduler also have one for 4 or less cores and one for 8 or more cores and LTS kernel one.

Now Garuda is fast but it uses more memory to achieve that, now with just firefox open and this sight I'm using 4.8gb of memory, I have 64gb's so not a big deal at all. I also need to warn about the weather plasmoid, the one in it is shit. I downloaded a weather widget in pamac and it crashed a few times till I found by trial and error you need to leave the Berlin Germany address in there. It also makes you go online to a website to find the address your city is in. I found that by pasting the url into the box it crashed after applying so you have to take like United%20States and change that and the other parts to United_States removing the space %20 code with _ like in Dos and remove other parts that are not location pertinent from the pasted URL "pain in the ass" but it's working and it looks incredible finally after the ripping out of my hair but I gave you a good hint at the solution so less baldness to yourself and blood pressure rising dangerously high.

Now the scaling is quite high went to 250% but gimp boxes were still tiny and the x's in them were also supersmall as in lean into screen to see if it's checked or not, and it doesn't do shit for some programs and xtreme download manager just froze up so I change it to 100% again then went from 4k to 1920x1080 then you have to logout login since many programs including xdman don't recognized the change and it's also java so it's naturally like a bitch wife just passive aggressive shit till you run it in hdmi after relogin or restart but then the experience got a lot smoother after that.

Now a surprise to me is that the shitty dolphin gui has a menu and like firefox you have to right click to find the box to click to show it. Now Dolphin which I did not realize like nemo has dual screens so you don't have faggot tabbing like thunar it's biggest shortcumming and now it seems like real file manager with the menu visible. I have no idea beside touch screens "faggot monitors" why the menu would be not visible since it's the main area of options and the lamer that decided to hide it needs to be bitch slapped for that queer decision or idiot decision fucking shit for brains project managers need to be taken behind the woodshed.

I have to admit I love the whisker menu but the KDE menu is not bad at all, you can't increase the size of the icons like in xfce but it's nice and responsive by itself.

Now unlike ManjaroXFCE the location is right so my time was right. But like Manjaro it set my hardware time to UTC "fucking idiot programmers, yeah users set NY US est time for the user and keep their computer they just installed this OS on in fucking England". Just fuck England, fuck London and fuck yourselves for giving a shit at all, set the fucking time to the time zone the user chooses when running the fucking install, common sense mother fuckers." Sorry this is my pet peave with the kernel, fuck london and their queerness and set the fucking time zone the same as the fucking question you asked during setup and don't assume anyone wants to live on the fucking island.

Now I think I'll keep this distro for a while since it's really nice looking and even the installer screen that is the same as Manjaro but 100x better looking as in the color choices look amazing almost shockingly good if you're used to Manjaro's installer this ones beautiful if the only word to describe it.

Thanks for the writeup, I've been looking at Garuda and thinking about trying a test installation for some time. Maybe they will have those bugs ironed out by the time I get to install it.

Try out endeavour xfce, runs sweet and smooth. Garuda has just to much stuff for my liking. You have more setup after in Endeavour but it's improved a huge amount since last year when the keyrings were not up to date and updating just shit itself before anything installed at all, now smooth installs and fast performance. Just put it in this weekend to replace Garuda and I'm happy I did since it was a great use of time and I like this decision also. I have an nvidia card and it used it during the install with the proprietary drivers.

I'm not afraid to correct myself when new fact present themselves. Check out a youtube review of the newest endeavour distro out and you will see how it's improved. Also it's recommended to do it on metal not virtual but all my installs are real not virtual since virtual is useless if the base system won't boot then all your virtual machines are never booting till the base system is fixed or replaced and hope you backed up your virtual system and that the backup reinstalls right.
