I always wondered about the kernel and building one for myself. Well instead of waiting like normal "lazy me" I decided to find out myself for once and found this site with the appropriate name for a kernel newbie.
So if you're wondering how to create a kernel for your personal system like the experienced high thinking real linux guys do then this is a good spot to begin that journey.
t's like building Gentoo but just the kernel portion so your system is smoother faster and has nothing extra you don't need to fuck up the rest of your system. Just a tight custom made system for your machine alone with all the drivers built right into the kernel.
Sure updating will take longer but the system will be tons more stable than a system that was put out for general users both AMD and Intel and NVIDIA and Radeon and CD , Bluetooth "you might never use Bluetooth so why include it", and everything else that is in a vanilla kernel.
Now your kernel say you don't use printers, scanners and don't plan on buying one, you don't use anything but usb drives so other portable media including dvd, cd, and SD cards. If you don't have the hardware why include it in you kernel at all.
This is something I really need to do myself, just don't have all the knowledge I need yet and don't want to do it and then need to reinstall the entire OS later.
Just thought the motivated person that had the basics down might want to move to the next level and add this knowledge to their toolkit for when they decide to try it or just do some stuff to their current kernel though more advanced modifications later. Enjoy.
