I've been trying to fix smplayer for few days. No video acc and the preferences under the video tab where the dropdown was for output said 4 choices, auto,error,exiting, and user choice. Well I reinstalled that an mpv, removed vlc, and finally got that to normal and the video is looking nice by installing mplayer and choosing that as the video engine on the 1st tab before video tab and more outputs like double of what mpv was offering. I also found mpv fucked the dog by changing the output toward vaapi, a format that is already supported under intel and radeon but not by nvidia which likes vdpau instead for video acceleration. What a pain in the ass, then changing the only backend mpv that worked well with nvidia with a backend that the others don't need. Sometimes I think nvidia or hollywood lawyers are paying off open source creators since this fake lockdown has made many broke and just dropped 10 grand to them to fuck anyone over that just wants to watch video in decent quality without stuttering or other bullshit. It seems all the fucking shit in Linux is being compromised since Linus decided to not tell people they are fucking retarded when that was keeping the quality up in Linux, now it's accept the code and hold their child hands and tell them how much you care for them even though they've just fucked a few thousand users over it's fine since they are so needed to sabotage linux. Sometimes I think we'd all be better off if we just went back to 2016 setups and just update them a little bit so like back then everything just worked right without tweaking, now it's a mine field of work or enjoy this new mystery of glitches. Yeah it's a rant but if you're getting shitty smplayer or other front end video playback then try using Mplayer instead of MPV.
