I just came to recommend a player that is new to myself. I have been using smplayer that is a frontend for the mvp engine. Now I like the interface but realized when I ran smplayer on a new install and didn't choose smplayer for the file and mvp player ran the file and it was a lot better looking image than the smplayer, for some reason video seems to lose quality when using smplayer. I then since mvp has few options outside the config file went to vlc. Now VLC is well known but it's also a monstrosity of programs merged and it was having problems syncing audio and video and would drag when I jumped ahead. I set a few filters with a ton or ram an nvidia 1650 and a 6 core cpu it was fighting to keep up but I blame the bloated vlc that should have just a player out so people not encoding or streaming can have a small but decent player "not holding my breath". So the player I found was great, I used to right click with smplayer on a folder, now I click a file and all the other ones are added to playlist. A hugely better option that in smplayer you have to edit the conf file is hardware acceleration and it's just a click. It's the Bomi player. Here's the player page but you likely have it if you look in your package manager since I got it from the AUR and it runs flawlessly. https://bomi-player.github.io/
